02Licensing
Five stages.One outcome.
From accredited training through competency, licence application and a properly argued motivation to DFO submission. Most refusals trace back to a weak application — ours are not weak.

Accredited Training
Complete accredited training and pass the practical assessment to earn your proficiency certificate.
1 – 2 days
L-02
Proficiency Certificate
Your certificate is registered on the national database. This is the document SAPS checks first.

Competency Certificate
Application submitted to SAPS on form 517. This confirms you are fit and proper to possess a firearm.

Licence Application & Motivation
The actual licence, applied for on form 271 per firearm, supported by a detailed written motivation.

DFO Submission & Approval
Your pack is submitted to the Designated Firearms Officer, reviewed, and processed through to approval and card issuance.
